TAKING TIME

Taking Time is a photographic series made at St Catherine's Breakwater, predominantly during the first and second lockdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic. The work documents the popular pastime of fishing, a recreational activity that became an increasingly familiar sight along the breakwater during this period.

Combining observational portraits of individuals fishing with photographs of the surrounding environment, the series explores the quiet rhythms of the breakwater and fishing as an activity shaped by patience, routine and reflection.

Made during a period of uncertainty, the photographs convey an atmosphere of stillness and calm, considering the ways recreational spaces and everyday rituals can offer moments of pause within the demands of daily life.
