SPORTS SPACES

Whether enjoying a knock-up on the tennis court, playing football, or going for a swim, recreational sports are widely regarded as leisure pursuits. Activities undertaken in one's free time for enjoyment, relaxation and escape from the routines of daily life.

Despite this sense of freedom, recreational sports are shaped by rules, routines and carefully designed environments. Defined by boundaries, markings, architecture and specialised equipment, these spaces quietly impose forms of order and control while remaining places intended for leisure.

Sports Spaces explores this tension through a photographic examination of recreational sporting environments. Balancing shapes, lines and architectural forms with the atmospheric qualities of colour and light, the work considers these spaces as places where structure and stillness coexist in a peculiar yet poetic harmony.
